Star Wars' R2-D2 sold for USD 2.76 million

The famous R2-D2 from several movies from the Star Wars franchise, has been sold for USD 2.76 million.

This was announced by the American auction house Profiles in History, which cited the data that this robot on wheels was barely over a meter tall and that the small cylindrical device, which lets out high-pitched noises, had been assembled from parts used in the original trilogy from 1977 till 1983, as well as in two of the movies made between 1999 and 2005.
