Global e-waste has a year growth of 5 percent which makes it the fastest growing waste on the planet. The high speed of the technological development leaves a high number of companies with the need to constantly update their IT systems in order to meet the technological requirements. Until year 2000. in USA was generated 4.6 million tons of e-waste and until 2003 was disposed round 135 million tones of mobile phones. Global e-waste is increasing for 50 million tones per year. Every hour, 4.000 tones of e-waste are disposed.

Danger in e-waste

E-waste is categorized as dangerous because it contains elements like led, cadmium, and Hg- well known for their hazard effect on environment and human health.

CRT contain led and other dangerous metals. Computer and TV monitor contain from 2 to 4 kg of led. 40 % of led in waste yards comes from consumer elecronics. Now, the question is what to do with the old equipment if it is so hazardous?

We are able to reuse as much as 70% of [IT] waste, which means that it can, and overall it must be recycled. Recycling is the best solution for environment, public health and economy.

Recourse of different materials and key of sustainable growth

Different types of electronic and electricall equipment contains 60% of metal, 30% of plastic and to 10% of glass. From those figures we can come to conclusion that e-waste can be good source of different materials highly needed in modern industry. Japan is an example of highly developed recycling industry, over 85% of total waste is being recycled. Japan has simple motto- what comes into country stays inside.

Whit Serbia and nearby countries, situation is completely different. Only 12% of total waste is recycled. In Serbia under 10%. Until 2006, Serbia didn’t have possibility for legal and useful disposal of e-waste. Now, BIS IT Recycling Centre near Pancevo, provides those highly needed services in modern and professional way.
