BUSINESS MEETTING OF THE REPRSENATATIVES OF THE SERBIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WITH THE REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF “TESPROTIE” FROM GREECE

The representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce met today (July 4, 2008) the delegation of the Chamber of Commerce “Tesprotie” from Greece. Two business associations negotiated about the establishing the cooperation in the field of agriculture, trade, tourism and building industry.

The main objective of the visit of Greek businessmen was acknowledgement about the development of some economy sectors in both countries, exchange of the experience and finding the ways of the improvement of the economic cooperation on mutual benefit.

Mr. Milan Prostran, the Head of the Agriculture Department in Serbian Chamber of Commerce noted that the amount of trade exchange between Serbia and Greece is approx half of the million US dollars per year in total and that this commercial exchange will be improved specially in the field of the citrus fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products and others.

He stated that there is a wide range of products that Serbia could offer for the Greek market such as grain, corn, a wide palette of various fodders, milk, dairy products, raspberries, blackberries, candy products etc.

According to his words there is a very good opportunity for Greek companies to invest in cloches, in Serbia for growing specific agricultural species that could not be grown in Greece.

Mr. Prostran also said that Serbia has some problems at the Greek market in offer of some products such as meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, caused by the fact that Greece is the member country of the European Union.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce of “Tesportie” from Greece, Mr. Aleksandros Pashos stated that a big number of Greek companies have already established their business cooperation with Serbia and this cooperation was made as the result of the traditional friendship between Serbian and Greek people.

Mr. Pashos said that “Tesprotie” is one of the 54 districts in Greece, that is located in the central part of Greece in the Region of Epirus, and is well known as the big producer of fish, citrus fruits- mandarins, oranges, kiwis, olives, construction material and other products.

Wishing to his hosts, Serbian businessmen , the fast forthcoming entering into the European Union membership, as soon as they comply with fulfill the conditions, Mr. Pashos offered his assistance and support in different programs financed by European Union in which the Greek Chamber of Commerce has been already included.

The delegation of Chamber of Commerce of “Tesprotie” is staying in Serbia within the program of inter regional cooperation supported by European Union “Interreg III Program”
