In June last year, the company bought the Ambasador, and as they state, "it should welcome its first guests by March next year".
Director
of My Place Group Ivan Spasic says the reconstruction started last month and
will cost more than EUR 2.5m.
-
All old furniture, installations, sanitary facilities have already been removed
from the hotel. The
demolition of walls has been in progress and this hotel will have about 70
rooms instead of former 150 rooms, of which 12 will be suits – Spasic said.
According to him, rooms will be modernly equipped and the facility will also have a conference room, a spa, a gym, and three restaurants.
- Hotel exterior will also be changed, a new facade, new aluminum window frames and new windows will be installed, Spasic said, adding that reconstruction will be done so that the hotel gets five stars.
Spasic said that the renovation
of the Ambasador did not start last year, as it was announced, for obtaining
permits and designs.
- The permission for the adaptation had to be issued by the Ministry of Construction since the hotel was higher than 50 meters - he explained.
Hotel
Ambasador was sold to My Place Group at auction for a bit more than RSD 97 m.
The
Ambasador was owned by Srbijaturist until 2003, when, like other hotels of that
company (Park, Partizan, Nais and Ozren), it was acquired by the company of the
American businessman, Srbo Ilic. After
years of litigation with the Privatization Agency, in 2014, Ilic decided to
sell all hotels including the Ambasador hotel.
