MALI: City of Belgrade will reconstruct Sava Center if no one else will

(Sinisa Mali) Mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali has said today that the city will begin the reconstruction of the Sava Center if no one else is interested in it, and that it will work through stages if there is not enough funds for the whole project.

He told to reporters at the City Hall on the presentation of the Belgrade Development Strategy by 2021 that tender for the reconstruction of the Sava Center was unsuccessful and that the city government would provide necessary funds of about RSD 2.5 to 3 m for the reconstruction.

- If no one else will, we will. The Sava Center is important to us because it is the largest congress center in this part of Europe, and we want to strengthen congress tourism, which cannot be done without the Sava Center – Mali said.

He added he would first allocate some of funds for the reconstruction of the Sava Center heating system in order to ensure stable operation of this institution during the upcoming winter.
