Bosch will invest a total of up to EUR 1 billion in the construction of a new semiconductor factory in Dresden. In order to meet demand due to increasing use of the Internet of Things (IoT) and mobility, new location will produce chips based on a 12-inch semiconductors. According to the company, construction of a high-tech factory should be completed by the end of 2019, and after the commissioning stage, production will likely begin in late 2021.

- A new semiconductor plant has been the largest single investment in Bosch history for more than 130 years – Dr. Volkmar Dener, Chairman of the Board of Management at Robert Bosch GmbH, said.

U Dresden, hiring of 700 people is planned.

- Semiconductors are key components of all electronic systems. As networking and automation increases, they are used in more and more areas. By expanding production capacities of semiconductor, we provided ourselves with a good basis for the future and competitiveness strengthening – Dener said.

For more than 45 years, Bosch has made semiconductor chips in multiple options, primarily as a specially applicable integrated circuits (ASIC), electricity semiconductors and microelectromechanical system (MEMS). Since 2016, every car which comes out of production lines in the world has on average more than nine chips produced by Bosch.
