Construction start on the track in Bela Reka tunnel at Corridor 11

Company of the Russian state-owned railways RZD International has started works on the track in the Bela Reka tunnel at the Belgrade-Bar railway, the company announced.

In the Bela Reka tunnel, at the Resnik–Valjevo section of the Belgrade-Bar railroad, which is a part of the European traffic Corridor 11, works on the track installation have started with usage of elastomer carpet technology, it was written in the RZD’s announcement

As they state, this technology has already been recognized in the world and now, they outline, for the first time it has been implemented within railways modernization in Serbia.

Tunnel, more than 3,8 km long, was built in 1958 and it has not been renovated since then.

RZD International started reconstruction of the facility in December 2016 and during that time, they say, works on water effluents from tunnel walls and reconstruction of its invert have been done.


After replacement of rail field, device and contact network, train speed increased from 50 to 120 kilometres per hour, the company states.

Works on the reconstruction of the Resnik–Valjevo section, they state, have been in progress in line with the Annex 4. 1 with the Contract signed by RZD International and Infrastruktura zeleznice Srbije in December 2015.

Planned deadline for project implementation is, they state, June 2018, and its contracted value totals app. USD 80 m.
