EU opens two chapters more in negotiations with Serbia - Topics are intellectual property and customs union

In the process of negotiations with Serbia , next week , the European Union will open two more chapters - 7 and 29. Chapter 7 refers to intellectual property rights, while in Chapter 29 refers to Customs Union. Harmonization with European legislation under Chapter 7 should bring to Serbia greater legal security and acceleration of technological development and stimulation of creativity, as well as strengthening of fight against piracy is expected.

Successful closing of the field covered by Chapter 29 takes automation of all customs procedures, transit, export and import, and after that business environment should improve as the customs union means certainty of business, and greater collection which fills in budget is expected.

All 28 member states have given the "green light" to launch negotiations and the decision, without debate, has been confirmed today at the meeting of ambassadors of member states in Brussels.

Malta, which chairs the European Council, scheduled for June 20 at 19.30 in Luxembourg the Intergovernmental Conference with Serbia where new chapters will open. At the Intergovernmental Conference, the European Union should be presented by Commissioner for Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Minister of Malta in charge of European Affairs Hlena Dali and Director for Western Balkans in the European foreign policy service Angelina Einhorst.

With two newly opened chapters, in negotiations with EU on membership, Serbia will have 10 open chapters, two of which have already been closed for the time being. The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, announced the opening of new chapters with Serbia in the second half of the year.
