NATO code allocated to 119 Montenegrin companies

With Montenegro’s membership in the NATO, local companies stand to get access to its enormous defense market, Pobjeda reports.

So far, 89 original Montenegrin products have received the NSN storage code, whereas 119 companies have received the NCAGE company code, Colonel Marinko Aleksic, head of the Directorate for Standardization and Codification of the Ministry of Defense, said for the Podgorica newspaper.

He stated that the NATO codification system (NCS) had been designed and standardized for defense needs of the NATO member-countries and their partners.

– The NATO codification system enables all the codified products, companies and users to be represented in the NATO Master Catalogue of References for Logistics (NMCRL), which currently codifies more than 18.5 million items and registers over 2.8 million producers and other organizations – Aleksic said.

He added that to appear in the said database meant that the listed entity was tested and qualified for defense activities, that it could serve as a supplier, be found through search and invited to public, as well as confidential, tenders.

Aleksic explained that the codification was also a condition for the company to qualify for being listed in the databases of potential suppliers of NATO institutions, such as the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA).
