Russians looking to establish special economic zone for high-tech companies in Serbia

Russia and Serbia might establish a special economic zone, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin stated and added that the special zone is to accommodate Russian high-tech companies.

The two sides will discuss the perspectives for its establishment this autumn at a session of the Russia-Serbian intergovernmental commission. According to him, this has been agreed with the acting prime minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.

– We are counting on being able to discuss this question of creating a special, joint economic zone where Russian high-tech companies might find their place – Rogozin said.

Serbian Minister of Economy Goran Knezevic said that “high-tech companies from Russia are interested in making economic zones such as the free industrial zone we already have in Serbia, where Russian companies would concentrate and be able to penetrate not just the Serbian market, but all the other markets as well with their production and their research centers”.

Knezevic points out that the concept of an economic zone between Serbia and Russia would create numerous options for Serbian companies, Sputnik reports.

He added that talks had been conducted on the topmost level on economic relations of Serbia and Russia.

– Those relations are on a high level. Last year alone, we had trade of more than EUR 2 billion, and Russian investments amounted to around EUR 3 billion, We have concluded that the possibilities of cooperation are inexhaustible and that everything needs to be raised to a higher level – Knezevic says.

Knezevic explains that this entails investments by Russian companies in Serbia, investments by Serbian companies in Russia, formation of joint companies and joint ventures in third markets.
