– This is a strategic project, not just for the Dubrovnik-Neretva County and its southern part, but for the entire Croatia as well – said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
The project of establishing a traffic connection with southern Dalmatia has been estimated as the best solution for connecting the disjointed territory of Croatia and entails three stages – first, the 2.4-km Peljesac Bridge, second, access roads to Peljesac, and third, the 18.09-km bypass route.
The Government of Croatia reached the decision on financing the project worth EUR 430.2 million (HRK 3.2 billion) in February. The decision obliges the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure to secure the money for financing the costs of the project until the completion of the entire procedure of the allocation of the EU funds.
The funds from the 2017 state budget planned for the project amount to HRK 261.8 million (EUR 35.1 million), whereas HRK 885.39 million (EUR 118.9 million) is planned for 2018, and HRK 815.9 million (EUR 109.6 million) for 2019, bringing the total amount up to HRK 1.96 billion (EUR 263.3 million).
Oleg Butkovic, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of Croatia, said that the construction of the Peljesac Bridge should start in the autumn of 2017 and that all the works on the bridge and the surrounding infrastructure should be completed in 2021 or 2022.
