Romania and Serbia have given up on the project of connecting their capitals by highway, stated Prime Minister of Romania Sorin Grindeanu.

– The Serbian partners have assessed that the construction of a highway from Belgrade to Timisoara is not a strategic project for Serbia – Grindeanu said.

The Romanian prime minister emphasized that the decision was in no way related to Romania.

The highway was supposed to be 140-km long. The feasibility study, worth nearly EUR 10 million, was approved last October, and the route was supposed to be built by 2025.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta agreed two and a half years ago in Belgrade that the Belgrade-Timisoara highway was a priority infrastructural project for both sides.
