TABAKOVIC: Diners falsifies reports, perpetrators to be penalized

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Jorgovanka Tabakovic, says that she expect the judicial organs to penalize the perpetrators of the falsification of the reports of Belgrade’s Diners Club International.

– It has been determined that this is no longer mere suspicion of irregularity, but that Diners reports have been falsified – Tabakovic said.

Tabakovic says that Diners, which has been operating in Serbia since 1992, didn’t use to be controlled by the NBS, as it was registered based on the Company Law, whereas it has now submitted a request to be registered as a payment institution.

She added that the NBS expected the judicial organs to put a stop to compromising the financial industry and to have those involved in any kind of financial abuse penalized.

According to her, the NBS is making efforts for the recipients of Diners cards not to be damaged and for the reputation of the institution not to be jeopardized.

The Diners Club account was blocked due to falsified accounts, which were discovered when the company was taken over by the Erste Card Club. Diners cards were used by around 35,000 Serbian citizens.
