National academy for public administration to be founded by late 2018 – Commercial courses envisaged as well

(Ana Brnabic) Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ana Brnabic stated on Friday, May 12, that the plan was for the National Academy for professional development in public administration to start operating by the end of 2018 with the aim of having Serbia get more efficient, personable and knowledgeable public officers.

Brnabic, who attended the closing round table within the public discussion about the draft law on the National Academy, said that the academy would be a separate institution with its own seat.

– It has been decided for the academy to be a separate organization, in order to secure independence and continuity, but it will be supervised by the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government. What's important is that it will encompass local self-government as well – said Brnabic.

She added that the draft law on the National Academy was ready to be adopted by the Government of Serbia and then at the National Assembly as well.

– We will start with the academy in Belgrade and then move on from there in line with the needs and the funds available – she said and added that the academy would develop in line with the best European standards in line with Serbia's needs.

She added that the academy would be open for commercial courses as well, meaning that people interested in learning how a local self-government is run or what one is supposed to do in the public administration would be able to pay for and attend the pertinent courses at the academy.
