Washing machine that uses only one glass of water per wash could appear on the market in Great Britain next year.

Company Xeros - which came from the University in Leeds to launch new technology - announced that its machine would consume less than 2% of water and energy used by the existing washing machines.

The new machine uses plastic pieces to remove dirt and stains and it additionally saves energy because there is no need for drying after washing.

It is expected that the price of the new machine "will not be much different than the prices of conventional washing machines", which spend about 35 liters of water per kilogram of laundry.

Over 2m washing machines worth about 1 billion GBP are sold in Britain every year.
