Company "Japan Tobacco
International" in
Serbia has announced that it will invest 100,000 EUR in the tobacco irrigation
pilot project that will be implemented at 80 to 100 ha.
JTI will soon start
procurement and installation of the irrigation system on the properties of the
manufacturers in Srem who produce tobacco "virginia".
That is the first JTI’s investment in tobacco irrigation in Serbia and the plan is that the project be resumed next year because irrigation is the crucial thing for high crops.
That company and its 500 collaborators have finished planting tobacco at
more than 1,300 ha and it is expected that over 3,000 tons of tobacco will be
purchased.
People in JTI expect that the expert and financial aid will make it possible for the manufacturers to have crops larger than 1,800 kg per ha, which were registered last year.
Tobacco growers obtained fertilizer, protective means, fuels, as well as all other semi-finished products required for tobacco production process.
As it has been specified, "virginia" tobacco was planted at 1,000 ha, while "berley" tobacco is at the remaining 300 ha.
