Simpsons turn 30

The first episode of the animated show The Simpsons was broadcast on April 19, 1987. Initially, the animated series, authored by Matt Groening, was part of The Tracey Ullman Show, becoming popular very quickly.

After three years, the animated shorts turned into a half-hour format standalone prime time show on Fox.

The show was conceived as a depiction of an average provincial American family, and it soon turned out that the audience could identify with the characters deeply, as the adventures of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson, as well as numerous other characters from the show, satirized everyday life.

A total of 615 episodes have been broadcast so far, making The Simpsons the longest-lasting American sitcom.

In 2007, a feature film was also released, earning USD 527 million.
