The president of the committee on finance of the National Assembly of Serbia, Aleksandra Tomic, stated on Wednesday, April 5, that the president of the National Assembly, Maja Gojkovic, had initiated the procedure of appointing new members of the Fiscal Council, whose six-year mandate expired on April 5.

She said for Beta that a letter had been sent from Gojkovic’s cabinet requesting the president of Serbia, the governor of the National Bank of Serbia and the Ministry of Finance to send their proposals for new Fiscal Council members.

– The procedure is such that the president of the state proposes the president of the Fiscal Council, whereas the NBS governor and the Ministry of Finance propose one member each – Tomic reminded.

According to her, the committee on finance is “a technical support, as it only makes sure that the requirements of the candidates’ education and experience are met once it receives the nominations, and it then sends the proposals to the plenum”.

The National Assembly appointed Pavle Petrovic as president of the Fiscal Council in March 2011, and Vladimir Vuckovic and Nikola Altiparmakov were appointed members of the body.

The members didn’t comment on the news on Wednesday, but, as they said to Beta, they will be performing their duties until new members are appointed.
