"Holcim Srbija" interested in oil shales from Aleksinac

- Cement factory ’Holcim Srbija’ from Novi Popovac near Paraćin is interested in exploiting oil shales, of which reserves in Aleksinac’s mining basin have been estimated to 4 billion tons - Executive Manager of the Aleksinac public company Underground Coal Exploitation, Zlatko Dragosavljević, confirmed today (May 14, 2008).

- Total of 2 billion tons of oil can be produced from that quantity of oil shales - Dragosavljević explained and pointed out that "Holcim Srbija" wanted to provide fuels for long-term production by means of exploitation and turning of oil shales into oil.

Cement factory from Novi Popovac now uses coal from Ukraine, which is forbidden in European Union because it does not meet the ecological standards.
