Germany's Continental opens new facility in Subotica – Investment worth EUR 17 million, jobs for 500

The German company Continental opened a new facility in Subotica today, where it will be producing car components, and the investment is worth EUR 17 million. The new facility has 12,000 square meters, and 500 people will be employed there in the next three years.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the Government of Serbia and its citizens had helped the realization of the investment and added that the Government had provided around EUR 3 million.

Continental has been operating in Subotica since 2011 and has been employing more than 600 workers in the car and truck component factory in the Mali Bajmok Industrial Zone so far.

The facility in Subotica will be producing pipes and pipe systems for vehicle powertrains on around 20,000 square meters and with full employment of 1,150 workers, to be reached in the coming years. The components will be delivered to car manufacturers in Europe.

The factory also produces components for agricultural, freight and industrial machinery. Zivko Topalovic, General Manager of Continental ContiTech Serbia, said that the new facility was built in line with the highest technical and environmental requirements and that the factory delivered goods to demanding clients, which had recognized it as a solid partner.

Continental had a turnover of EUR 40.5 billion in 2016, and it employs more than 220,000 people in 56 countries

Catrin Czyganowski, representative of the Embassy of Germany, said that German companies had invested EUR 1.8 billion and created 35,000 jobs in Serbia in the previous 16 years. She added that 90% of businessmen were ready to invest in Serbia again.
