She said that the decision would come into effect by being published in the Official Gazette, marking at the same time the initiation of all activities related to the election.
The Law on Electing the President of the Republic envisions that presidential election needs to be called 90 days before the expiration of the president's mandate and to be completed in the following 60 days.
The period from the calling of the election to the voting mustn't be under 30 or over 60 days.
All registered political parties, coalitions and groups of citizens may nominate presidential candidates, provided that they are supported by at least 10,000 authorized signatures, and the nominations are filed to the Serbian Electoral Commission 20 days before the election day at the latest.
The order of the candidates on the list is determined by drawing lots.
The president is elected through direct, secret voting.
The candidate to receive the majority of votes is elected president.
If no candidate receives the majority of votes, the voting is repeated within 15 days of the first day of the election, and the two candidates to have received the largest number of votes go into the second round, with the winner being the candidate who receives more votes.
The mandate of President Tomislav Nikolic expires on May 31, 2017.
