Construction of Surcin-Obrenovac highway and new bridge on the Sava starts – Works worth EUR 208 million

The construction of the Surcin-Obrenovac highway section on Corridor 10, close to the Prva Iskra factory in Baric, started yesterday, along with the new bridge on the Sava.

The section is 17.6 km long, and the new bridge will have 1.766 km. The main contractor is China Communications Construction Company Ltd. The completion deadline period is 32 months, and the works are financed from the loan of the Chinese Exim Bank, the Government of Serbia reported.

The Surcin-Obrenovac highway will enable Corridors 11 and 10 to be linked through the bypass route around Belgrade at the Surcin interchange.

The official opening of the construction works was attended by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic, Ambassador of China to Serbia Li Manchang and overseas general director of the Chinese company, Lu Shan, the website of the Government of Serbia adds.

Vucic pointed out that the entire construction of the section cost EUR 208 million and added that Serbia was able to sign the agreement only after “the growth of the public debt has been stopped through financial discipline and responsibility”.

The bridge on the Sava alone costs EUR 103 million, Vucic reminded.

He announced that the road from Obrenovac to Cacak would be completed in 2017 as well, a very important thing, as he estimated, for Obrenovac, Stubline, Ub, Slovac, Lajkovac, but also Mionica Nepricava, Valjevo, Milanovac and Cacak.
