Serbian arms industry at IDEX Abu Dhabi – Jugoimport presents unmanned helicopter

The International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi (IDEX 2017) opened on Sunday, February 19, 2017. Serbian companies Jugoimport SDPR, Sloboda, Prva Petoletka, Zastava Oruzje, Krusik and Borbeni Slozeni Sistemi are presenting their production capacities at the fair.

This is the 13th international defense exhibition in Abu Dhabi. Four new products of the Serbian defense industry premiered at the fair, causing great interest on the first day of the event. Among them are the long-range missile Sumadija (300 km) and the unmanned helicopter Strsljen, capable of a five-hour autonomous flight when it comes to reconnaissance and a two-and-a-half-hour flight when it comes to combat. The visitors' attention was especially attracted by the multi-purpose armored vehicle Milos, meant for reconnaissance, patrolling and special operations and featuring protection from anti-tank mines and four-wheel drive. Another new product is the missile Grad, with a range of 52 kilometers and a caliber of 122 millimeters, says the website of the Ministry of Defense.

The stand of Jugoimport SDPR has surpassed all of previous years' exhibits, both in size and in the number and importance of exhibited items. In addition to the standard products of Serbia companies, the self-propelled 155 mm howitzer Nora and the 8x8 armored vehicle Lazar have been presented for the first time.

The delegation of the Ministry of Defense, headed by assistant minister of defense for material resources, Nenad Miloradovic, is also visiting Abu Dhabi.

– The UAE market is one of the key markets for the defense industry of Serbia. We currently have active contracts worth around USD 220 million in it. The armed forces and the defense industry in UAE are also a strategic partner in developing several types of sophisticated arms, which should considerably improve the operating capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces and our export potential. Negotiations which should result in the signing of new agreements are in progress, both on the delivery of standard arms and ammunition from our defense industry and on the opening of new joint development projects – Miloradovic said.

The Serbian delegation met with the Major General Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, UAE Air Force and Air Defense Commander. Together, they considered the current cooperation of the two sides and the progress of the project of guided aircraft weapons, being developed in the partnership between the two countries, as well as the plans for new types of weapons and aircraft, currently being prepared. A meeting was also held with Brigadier General Vahid Al Zaki, co-president of the commission for military-economic cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia and the UAE General Staff, discussing new projects and contracts.

According to the organizers' announcements, more than 1,200 companies from 57 countries will take part in IDEX 2017.
