Government expect around 20 renowned companies to be interested in Nikola Tesla Airport

The Government of Serbia expects twenty world-renowned companies to take part in the bidding for the selection of the concessionaire for the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport for a period of 25 years.

As told to the press at the Government of Serbia by Assistant Minister for Air Transport Zoran Ilic, “these are twenty world-famous players”.

He added that the Government had opted for a concession because the current capacities of the airport had nearly reached their maximum.

– As we've announced, airports are a good business and serious operators are always interested in all forms of public-private partnerships or concessions. We believe that this will be the case with the Nikola Tesla Airport as well. These are global players interested in airports throughout the world. We do not know at the moment who will contact us or who is interested – Ilic said for Tanjug.

He reminded that some of the famous companies in this field in Europe are Ferrovial from Spain, Aeroports de Paris and VINCI from France, TAV from Turkey, Fraport and AviAlliance (hoc htief) from Germany, Schiphol from Holland...

However, Ilic added that there were other famous companies from North America, China and Africa as well.

The concessionaire will, according to him, need to invest several hundred million euros in the development of the airport. According to consultants' estimates, the current capacities of the airport are five to seven million passengers a year, and the number could be at least 17 million passengers in the next 25 years with investments, Ilic said.

The Belgrade Airport had 4.92 million passengers in 2016, and Ilic reminds that the reconstruction of Terminal 1, which will secure capacities for an additional two million passengers, is in progress.

He pointed out that “airports are a good business” and that the Government wouldn't be trying to find a concessionaire if there weren't interested parties.

Ilic said that the invitation had been sent to both local and foreign companies.

The director of the Nikola Tesla Airport, Sasa Vlaisavljevic, stated yesterday that the future concessionaire was expected to take over all the employees and said that all the employees at the airport would be protected.
