The director of South, Bojan Avramovic, says that the politically uncertain situation is increasing business risks, which is why the new tender for the investor which would be a partner in Nis and other municipalities in the construction of the Keles landfill is being postponed.
– There are interested investors, but I wouldn’t like to speculate, and we will continue all activities after the election. They will continue once the situation’s fully cleared regarding politics and the election campaign in Serbia, as having a tender in the middle of the election risks having problems – Avramovic adds.
Although several investors have contacted them so far, among them companies from Greece, Spain and France, they say that no one has met the requirements, and the latest concessionaire has not filed banking guarantees, which, as Avramovic explains, is a condition prescribed by the law.
Interested investors, he adds, also considered higher prices for utility services they would be providing, but, as he says, they won’t go above the set price of EUR 40 per ton of waste.
– We will not go above EUR 40 per ton and if we do find the investor, we will have a regional center. It all depends on Nis and other 7 municipalities. This is an undeveloped area and we can’t increase the price of utility services by more than 5% – Avramovic said.
Let us remind that the first ad for concessionaire which would build a landfill and a waste management center was placed in May 2015, and Greece’s Helector and Spain’s Urbaser took part at the time, with Austria’s Strabag and Greece’s Mesogeos also showing interest.
The beginning of the construction of Keles was announced for the spring of 2016 at the time. However, it is still not known which concessionaire will build a recycling center and a landfill which would solve the issue of disposal of waste from Nis, Doljevac, Gadzin Han, Merosina, Aleksinac, Svrljig, Sokobanja and Razanj.
