Possible annual income from wind energy in Serbia - 120m EUR

- Serbia has so much wind energy that it can annually produce 2.3 billion kWh of electric energy worth about 120m EUR - said the assistant to the Minister of Energy, Dejan Stojadinović, yesterday.

He said to the press that total installed capacity of wind generators in the world in 2007 was 95,000 MW and that the largest wind energy manufacturers in Europe were Germany and Spain.

According to the words of Stojadinović, in order for production of electric energy by means of wind generators to be economic, minimum average annual wind speed of 5 meters per second at the height of 50 meters above the ground is required.

The locations with the highest average annual wind speed in Serbia are: Midžor (7.66 meters per second), Suva planina (6.46 m/s), Vršački breg (6.27 m/s), Tupižnica (6.27 m/s), Krepoljani (6.18 m/s) and Deli Jovan (6.13 m/s).

- The best locations in Serbia for construction of wind generators are Dolovo near Pančevo, Bela Crkva, Inđija and Kovin, but these locations still need to be analysed. As far as other renewable sources are concerend, biomass is the commonest in Serbia and it can be used for production of 2.4m tons of oil equivalent on annual basis - Stojadinović pointed out.
