The domestic football club with the biggest number of trophies signed the two-year contract with Walter Zenga, former goalkeeper of the Italian national team and Milan-based Inter. Walter Zenga was the coach of Steaua from Bucharest until recently. After many names mentioned in relation to the future coach of Zvezda, such as Bajević, Stoičko, Hadži, the decision of the new management that Zenga becomes new coach was the real surprise to many.
Walter Zenga is much more famous by his qualities of the player (he was goalkeeper for the "azures" for 68 times, played on total of 360 games and was the best goalkeeper in the world) than by his successes as a coach because he trained only one football club from America and two Romanian teams, Nacional and Steaua. He was fired from the latter few months ago, two rounds before the end of the championship.
This is the first time ever that Crvena Zvezda has the foreign coach.
