The City of Belgrade will get a building permit for the construction of a garage beneath Kneza Milose Street by the end of March. The garage will be able to take in 425 cars – City Manager Goran Vesic says for Novosti.

According to him, the garage will be built through offering a public-private partnership to the citizens.

The underground parking lot will stretch from Nemanjina Street to the Gazela bridge, and the plan is to have three vehicle entrances and exits along the street.

– We will get two new lanes in addition to the existing five, which will unload the traffic. The sidewalks will be narrower – Vesic explains.

– There are around 220 parking spaces in the street at the moment, and their number will double with this project – Vesic explains.

The city manager explains that the city will offer half of the total number of parking spaces to citizens for a period of 30 years, which will cost, depending on the location, between EUR 20,000 and 30,000.

The city is planning to acquire money for the construction of a garage in Njegoseva Street in a similar manner. This plan also envisions underground parking spaces for citizens from Kursulina Street to Beogradska Street.

– This is also how will we finance the underground garage in Kralja Aleksandra Blvd, from the Czech embassy to the Faculty of Law, and then the garage in Takovska Street. This system can function in those parts of the city where people can pay to park their cars – Vesic concluded.
