Ban on transport on the Danube affecting exporters of grains and soy

The ban will cause a halt in shipment and it remains to be seen how much of it will be recovered in the coming months.
According to the head of the Zita Srbije, Vukosav Sakovic, Serbia was supposed to deliver around three million tons of corn and around 150 thousand tons of soy through the Danube.
A total of 200,000 tons of yellow grain and 40,000 tons of soy were delivered and sold in December, as well as symbolic amounts of wheat, as the current price of bread grains in the local market, no matter how low and symbolic for local producers, is still too high for foreign purchasers. It has been agreed to deliver around 200,000 tons of corn by barges in January.
Zita Srbije, which brings together a large number of producers and traders in grains and oleaceous plants, doubts that this will be accomplished and is already planning operating losses, because, if meteorological reports are anything to go by, the halt of the transport on the Danube will most probably last throughout January.
