Fire in factory "Galenika Fitofarmacija" in Zemun - 24 people hurt

Last night (April 6, 2008), a small explosion caused fire in a warehouse with pesticides in factory "Galenika Fitofarmacija" in Zemun.

- It was a small explosion caused by, most likely, technological process and it destroyed all dishes with poisonous matters - said the chief of the sector for protection and rescuing within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Predrag Marić.

The intervention, according to Marić, lasted for relatively long time because of the fact that the work with aggressive matters is not possible if not in special suits. He added that the situation was under control and there was no danger from new explosions.

After fire, 24 people were received at the Military Medical Academy, two of whom got serious burnts, said Zoran Šegrt, the physicist at Military Medical Academy, and added that the fire had been extinguished by 45 firemen and that none of them was hurt, but that, for the sake of prevention and control of their health, they stayed at the Medical Academy.
