The IKEA store in Belgrade should be completed in June 2017. It will have 35,300 square meters and employ 300 people. The company’s SEE representative, Vladislav Lalic, said that 50 people were employed at the moment and that a job ad for another 250 workers would be placed in January and February.
The first phase of the project of the construction of the department store is worth EUR 70 million, and IKEA has bought more land in Bubanj Potok than necessary for the construction of the building, so an additional investment of around EUR 70-80 million is planned, for the construction of a retail park.
The department store will offer a full range of 9,500 house furnishing products at affordable prices, an IKEA food restaurant with 550 seats, a Swedish food store, IKEA Bistro, IKEA for Children with a playroom and a parking lot with around 1,375 spaces.
Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said that the Bubanj Potok toll booth should be moved by May 1 at the latest and added that the plan was to make the area around Bubanj Potok a commercial zone.
– IKEA is a developmental project, not just for Belgrade, Mladenovac and Sopot, but for Smederevo, Smederevska Palanka, Pozarevac and Velika Plana as well – he said.
The foundation stone for the first IKEA department store was laid down in April 2017, next to the Belgrade-Nis highway, in the presence of Prime Minister Vucic and Stefan Vanoverbeke, CEO of IKEA South East Europe, marking the official beginning of the construction works.
