"Belgrade Beer Industry" to close units in Čačak

New owner of the Belgrade Beer Industry (BIP) – the consortium made of Lithuanian company "Alita" and Swedish Beer industry "United Nordic Beverages” – has made the decision, on the basis of the agreement with the Privatization Agency, to discontinue activities in the beer and juice bottling lines in Čačak, due to non-profitability.

The new owners intend to turn the office space of these units into distributive center of BIP for the territory of western and southwest Serbia and to sell is later, which will discontinue 150-year tradition of beer making in Čačak.

Beer bottling unit in Čačak ceased to operate at the end of year 2007, while the production of bread drink ended last week when the transportation of equipment to Belgrade commenced.

The beer bottling unit used to employ 89 workers, 54 of whom are taken care of within the scope of the social program and they got severance pays ranging between 150 and 200 EUR per year of work.

Other workers refused to become surplus manpower, so that their destiny is still uncertain.

As Dejan Vukićević, Manager of Čačak-based beer bottling unit, announced, they will most probably work on distribution of beer, but only prior to October.
