Twitter too knows we're not eating healthy, as shown by the research carried out by scientists at the University of Utah. By analyzing 80 million tweets sent from America from mid-2014 till mid-2015, they found that food and drinks were mentioned in 4 million (5%) of them. They then divided them into categories of “healthy” and “unhealthy”. Surprisingly or not, only one of the ten most frequently mentioned food and drink types belongs to the healthy category – poultry. The first three places belong to coffee, beer and pizza, and the list also includes barbecue, ice cream, tacos and wine.

What's interesting is that subjects from poorer areas were less likely to mention healthy food and that fast food was most often mentioned by residents of densely populated cities.

By analyzing the most frequently mentioned activities, the researchers placed walking first, followed by dancing, running, exercising, playing golf, swimming, yoga, bowling. The areas in which walking, dancing and running were mentioned more frequently had lower mortality and obesity rates.
