Employers asking for sick leaves to be at their expense for 10 days, the rest at the expense of the state

The president of the Union of Employers of Serbia, Nebojsa Atanackovic, said that a true employer took care of his employees.

Nevertheless, he says that sick leaves should be taken at the expense of the employer for 10 to 15 days, as in many countries, and for the rest to be charged to the healthcare fund.

– The situation here is that the extension of the right to sick leaves at the expense of the employer is being projected, from a month to two months, without anyone considering the fact that employers are already complaining that they have a large number of employees already on sick leaves – Atanackovic said.

He wonders why the practice is not the same as in other countries where the above mentioned system is implemented.

– The attitude of the state and health institutions toward sicks leaves would change in that case – he added.

The president of the Confederation of Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia, Ljubisav Orbovic, said that the status of many workers in Serbia was unfavorable and that traditional employment was a thing of the past.

As he says, many of them work flexible hours, through youth organizations, or as unregistered workers. He adds that this is true of several hundred thousand people.

Orbovic points out that they are not entitled to annual leaves and other rights, preventing them from making any plans, as well as that they have very few rights overall.

– Very few employers in Serbia take care of their employees, though there are those who are honest and responsible – Orbovic said.
