Public debt of Serbia in late October 72.1% of GDP

The public debt of Serbia at the end of October 2016 amounted to EUR 22.38 billion, which is 72.1% of the gross domestic product (GDP), reported the Ministry of Finance on December 1.

In September, the public debt amounted to around EUR 22.05 billion, which is 70.8% of the GDP.

At the end of 2015, the public debt amounted to around EUR 24.82 billion, i.e. 74.7% of the GDP.

The public debt of Serbia at the end of 2014 amounted to EUR 22.76 billion, which is 70.4% of the GDP, whereas, at the end of 2013, it was EUR 20.14 billion, i.e. 59.6% of the GDP.


At the end of 2000, the public debt amounted to EUR 14.17 billion, or 201.2% of the GDP, and it reached its lowest level in 2008, when it equaled EUR 8.78 billion, or 28.3% of the GDP.

The Budget System Law limits the share of the public debt in the GDP to 45%.
