The Commission for Protection of Competition reported yesterday that it had approved the takeover of Marfin Bank Serbia by the Czech Expobank in a summary procedure.

The Czech bank submitted a request for the approval of the acquisition of Marfin Bank to the Commission on October 14. The bank's owner is Russian businessman Igor Vladimirovich Kim, and it has been operating since 1991.

The majority owner of Marfin Bank Serbia is Cyprus Popular Bank, headquartered in Cyprus. Marfin Bank has 18 offices in Serbia and 289 employees and it provides corporate and retail services.

Expobank and Marfin Bank signed a sales and purchase agreement in late September.
