Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Oscar Benedict, said at the conference “Development of E-Business in Serbia – Achievements and Challenges”, where the certificates were handed out, that the introduction of the trust mark in e-trade was one of the most important results of the project of development of electronic trading in Serbia, financed by the EU with EUR 2.5 million.
He said that the project, which had provided support to SMEs and familiarized them with e-trade and e-business as a means of improving competitiveness and reducing operating expenses, had been realized in the previous two years in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Economy of Serbia.
– This is not the end, but the beginning of the process which introduces changes in the e-business in Serbia, as it is necessary for further economic growth, making profit and creating new jobs – Benedict said and announced that the EU would continue to support the development of e-business in Serbia.
According to him, over 700 representatives of SMEs from Serbia attended e-business and e-trade workshops during the project's implementation.
Benedict also pointed out that there had been 35 workshops about the importance of digital economy, e-business and e-trade and fight against cyber crime for around 1,000 representatives of state institutions.
He added that the project of support to e-business in Serbia was a part of the EU program of support to SMEs and emphasized that the EU had invested EUR 15 million in projects aiming to strengthen the private sector in Serbia in the previous 15 years.
As said, Serbia now has 66 SMEs and entrepreneurs certified to use E-trustmark. It was also pointed out that people could inform and educate themselves about their rights regarding online purchase at the portal at www.e-dukator.rs.
E-trustmark certificates will remain in effect until November 2017. Following the completion of the project, the Center for Development of E-Trade and Online Consumer Protection from Novi Sad will continue carrying out the accreditation process and handing out the certificates.
