Possible opening of new airline company base at Nis Airport – Construction of new terminal on 2017 agenda

The director of the Nis Constantine the Great Airport, Vladica Djurdjanovic, expects that improved conditions will enable an airline company to establish its base at the Nis Airport as soon as 2017.

Djurdjanovic said that the opening of an airline's base created 30 jobs, but also 20 new lines, considering that an airplane can make 3-4 rounds a day.

– I hope that the implementation of the planned investments will be completed next year and that we will opt for establishing a base, that is, stationing an airplane in Nis, which requires at least 20 lines. Paris, London , Stockholm, there are all interesting destinations, but the problem at the moment is down to the Nis Airport, which is not technically capable of hosting an airline company – said the director of the airport.

In around ten days, the first works on expanding and recovering the passenger terminal should begin, whereas the construction of a new terminal is expected in 2017. This will enable the airport to service two planes simultaneously.

– As for the airport building, we expect, as Minister Mihajlovic has promised, around EUR 3.5 million for the reconstruction and expansion of the airport building (arrival and departure gates), as well as the installation of a category 1 ILS device and the approach lighting system – Djurdjanovic said.

The Constantine the Great Airport has had 9 active lines towards Europe since November 1, thanks to Wizz Air and Ryanair flights. With the current number of routes, the airport will have around 120,000 passengers by the end of the year, whereas the number of 300,000 passengers is planned for the next year.
