Donnerra opening cold storage plant for fruit in Ruma – Installation of irrigation systems and hail protection planned

The company Donnerra intends to expand the market for the export of fruit and to raise a cold storage plant in Ruma, Tanjug reports.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Protection Branislav Nedimovic visited the Ruma factory on Sunday, October 23, together with the Slovenian minister of agriculture, Dejan Zidan.

Donnerra has around 170 ha of land. The largest section, around 100 ha, is used to grow apples. As stated on the company's website, they also grow pears, apricots and cherries. Most of the fruit is exported to the Russian market, and, as the factory's representatives said, the plan is to expand the export to the markets of North Africa, India and China.

They are also planning to open a cold storage plant with a capacity of 3,500 tons next year, and for the entire area under orchards to be equipped with irrigation systems and hail protection in the next five years.

Nedimovic said, following the tour, that the visit had been organized shortly before the joint session of the governments of Slovenia and Serbia, so that he would show to his Slovenian colleague examples of good practice in Serbia.

He added that he had talked with Zidan about Slovenia's experiences in the area of agriculture, specifically, in the area of food safety and rural development, where Slovenia had achieved considerable results.
