Germany supporting development of RES in Serbia

The ambassador of Germany to Serbia, Axel Dittmann, stated on Friday, October 14, that the country would continue supporting Serbia in improving the sustainable development of energy resources and climate protection.

– The environment is in the focus of our cooperation with Serbia in the area of waste, waste water, strengthening energy efficiency, as well as in the areas of hydro energy and wind energy – Dittmann said and added that the sustainability and the development of green energy did not endanger the industry, nor the economic growth, and added that Germany's experience showed that.

Dittmann also said that the economic and the political sector had invested in energy efficiency and the development of renewable sources of energy, from which Germany got a third of its energy.

– The public campaign was also important, as well as a change of awareness and increased responsibility of citizens – he added.

He also said that the National Energy Development Strategy, adopted last year, showed that Serbia saw the sector as a considerable challenge.

The state secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Zoran Predic, pointed out that renewable energy sources were one of Serbia's priorities.

– Renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency are important, not just due to international obligations, but also for the people of Serbia and a healthier environment – he said and added that it was important to raise public awareness of the area.
