The workers of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) who apply for severance packages will receive EUR 5,000 to 20,000, said the acting director of EPS, Milorad Grcic, yesterday.
– The severance payments will be given to everybody who applies and meets only one of the conditions for retirement, since they are legally allowed to work until both conditions are met – years of service and years of age – Grcic said and added that 1,860 workers had applied for the program.
Grcic says that, thanks to their leaving, the enterprise will save more than EUR 100 million by 2020.
As he said, the severance package program has been created with the help of the Government of Serbia, the relevant ministry and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, the understanding of the IMF and the unions and is, according to him, “fantastic”.
Grcic says that EPS has a problem with the age structure of its employees, which are older than 50. In that regard, savings of EUR 13 million have been made this year in negotiations with the unions. This public enterprise is undergoing the process of restructuring and is obliged to reduce the number of employees, of which there are currently 30,000.
Profit of RSD 13.1 billion in the first six months of 2016.
EPS made a profit of RSD 13.1 billion in the first six months of 2016, which is 10 billion more than last year, Grcic said and added that the production had increased by 7.7% compared to the plan for 2016 and that amount of charges had increased and that losses had been considerably reduced.
According to him, EPS is an honest company, which will remain a stable energy factor and a backbone of the economy. As he said, EPS wouldn't have been able to reorganize the enterprise and optimize the number of employees as per agreement with the IMF without the help of the Government of Serbia and the prime minister.
