EPS investing EUR 700-800 million in environmental protection – More than EUR 200 million invested in reducing thermal power plant pollution

Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said today that EPS will need to invest between EUR 700 and 800 million in environmental protection in the coming period.

At the opening of the Energy, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Fairs in Belgrade, Antic said that he was convinced that the energy sector and the commercial sector could create synergy in order to advance the entire sector with the aim of creating cleaner energy, preserving the environment and activating the commercial sector.

He also said that the energy system should provide security and stability in supplying the citizens and the commercial sector, enable the general economic development and promote renewable energy sources.

He said that RES were Serbia's great potential and that energy stability must be provided and added that the entire sector had ambitious plans and projects.

Antic mentioned the project of building a large thermal energy facility in Kostolac, of the latest generation with 350 MW.

The minister said that the entire energy sector invested a lot in order to reach European standards and noted that more than EUR 200 million had been invested in reducing the pollution produced by thermal power plants.

According to him, the final electrical filter had been installed in 2016 to the end of preventing the emission of pollution by powdery substances and that EPS would need to invest between EUR 700 and 800 million in environmental protection in the coming period. He said that RES were the future and added that a lot of mini hydro power plants had already been built in Serbia, as well as wind farms, solar farms and that a lot of work was being done to the end of using biomass.

As he said, biomass is Serbia's great resource and a great opportunity for creating green energy.

The minister of energy said that energy was important to economic growth and that the Government of Serbia's plans for the next year were even more optimistic regarding economic growth.
