"IRS" to deliver 750 freight cars to “Serbian Railways” – contract worth 56m EUR

Chief Executive of “Serbian Railways”, Milanko Šarančić, signed the contract today (February 21, 2008) with multinational company "IRS" on delivery of 750 freight cars, worth more than 56m EUR.
- The funds, with the guarantee of the Government of Serbia, have been provided from the favorable loan of European Bank for Rehabilitation and Development, and already in this year we will significantly rehabilitate and modernize motor pool with freight cars, which are intended for international and local transportation – said Šarančić.
He has specified that the agreement is that the delivery of the first freight cars starts in two or three months, while all other cars should be delivered within nine months.
According to the words of Šarančić, the funds for that big business were won by one of the largest companies specialized for production of freight railway cars.
President of company "IRS", Christian Burchi, announced that the first freight cars would be delivered to Serbian Railways already in April and he promised that all deadlines in the contract would be met.
Šarančić also signed the contract today with German company "Hegenštajt" on delivery and assembling of modern lathe for processing of wheels on locomotives and cars of “Serbian Railways”.
- The lathe will be installed in marshaling yard in Makiš, and the value of the lathe and equipment is about 2m EUR - “Serbian Railways” announced.
Sales manager of "Hegenštajt", Jirgen Engels, pointed out that that company had offered one of the up-to-date lathes for processing of wheels on locomotives and cars on the tender and added that those lathes were in high demand on the world market.
