MALI: Belgrade never closer to construction of subway

The mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, stated on Friday, September 16, that Belgrade had never been closer to the construction of a subway and announced that the traffic master plan of the City of Belgrade would be completed by mid-November, Beoinfo reported.

Mali took a tour of the Viroflay subway near Paris and talked to the management of the company Egis.

The representatives of the company expressed their hope that they would cooperate with the City of Belgrade on the subway project.

According to Mali, Belgrade has prepared numerous studies and analyses in the past year in order to define the first three subway lines, which will be followed by the second phase, which entails negotiations about financing the project.

– In that phase, we will negotiate about financing with our French partners. What's important is to develop not just the urban sections of the city, but others as well, depending on where the subway line will go through. Also, in addition to stimulating the development of our economy, as Serbian companies and Serbian engineers will be working on it, the project will also stimulate the development of the city and make it comparable to European and world metropolises – Mali said.
