Fifteen schools and dozens of entrepreneurs interested in dual education

Minister of Education Mladen Sarcevic says that, at the moment, 15 schools and several dozen entrepreneurs are interested in dual education programs.

He also said that a serious promo campaign was needed for dual education, which combines vocational education and apprenticeship in companies, so that parents would realize that it is in the family's interest for the child to start working and to enter undergraduate studies from there.

As he said, this type of education is already practiced in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, whereas, in Serbia, it is believed that certain trades are chosen only by the worst students.

– A student can enter undergraduate studies later on, through the working process, and, say, turn from a mechanic to a quality designer – the minister said.

He emphasized that everyone benefited from such a system.

– It's good for everybody. Companies get well-trained work force, children get jobs, salaries and possibility of professional development, and the school system and teachers benefit from a reduced cost of education, which in turn increases their standard of living – Sarcevic said.

He adds that interested companies need to own licenses and that people from companies and schools need to integrate.

– People from companies need to be in school boards, and teachers need to visit those companies and track the children's progress – Sarcevic said.

According to the minister, the construction sector and the agriculture and food industry will benefit the most from dual education.
