Nikola Tesla Airport getting airplane de-icing platform – Investments worth RSD 4.4 billion planned for 2016
While it’s breaking its own records in the number of passengers in the summer season, the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is busy preparing for the upcoming winter. Strabag’s experts are building a platform for de-icing and frost prevention.
– Whereas most of the largest airports are financed through loans, the Nikola Tesla Airport operates without debts. This principle increases the company’s profitability, so the EBITDA margin of the Belgrade Airport is comparable to that of the top companies in the sector – claims the acting director of the airport, Sasa Vlaisavljevic.
He says that around RSD 600 million has been invested in the projects of building a platform for de-icing and frost prevention and new transport routes connecting platforms A and B, carried out by local companies.
– This is just a part of a RSD 4.4 billion budget, which has been set aside for further development and modernization in 2016 in line with the new amendment. The current infrastructural capacities are sufficient for the current traffic, but responsible management entails timely preparation for expansion. The management’s strategic orientation is towards increasing the airport’s attractiveness to airlines and passengers – Vlaisavljevic explains.
Some of the most important investments in 2016 include arranging the ground floor of Terminal 1 and the link between Terminals 1 and 2, reconstructing and expanding the halls A and C and installing a baggage transport system.
– As summer is traditionally the peak season, we have made an absolute historical record in the number of passengers in one month. In August, 590,292 passengers went through the Belgrade Airport, breaking the previous record made this July. The average daily number of passengers in August amounted to over 19,000, and the busiest day in the history of the airport was September 2, with 21,187 passengers – Vlaisavljevic notes.
This reflects on financial results as well. The total income made in the first seven months of 2016 amounts to over EUR 40 million, with a profit of around EUR 14 million.
