Hotel offering sleepover in two states simultaneously

The Hotel Arbez is located on the borderline between Switzerland and France, as it had been built before the current border was defined.

The hotel was built in the 19th century, and even though it has only two stars, the novelty of being located in two countries at once makes it worth spending a night at.

The treaty between Switzerland and France signed in 1862 moved the border between the two countries.

Before the treaty was signed, a local businessman decided to raise a building consisting of a café on the French side and a grocery store on the Swiss side. The arrangement was kept until 1921, when the building was bought by Jules-Jean Arbeze, who turned it into a hotel.

One of its most interesting features is the fact that the border goes right through numerous rooms, which makes it possible to spend a night there with one’s head in Switzerland and one’s feet in France.

Of course, it should be kept in mind that both cuisines are represented here, making it possible for visitors to enjoy the Swiss fondue and the French foie gras alike.
