Air Serbia and Iran Air connecting two capitals – Talks on introducing direct Belgrade-Tehran route begin

Air Serbia might introduce direct flights to Tehran, which would improve Serbia's connections with the Middle East, contribute to the development of tourism and draw new investments.

The mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, and the director of Air Serbia, Dane Kondic, met with representatives of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran to talk about the required permits.

If a direct flight were introduced, Air Serbia would operate the route in partnership with the national airline of Iran – Iran Air.

– I firmly believe that it is important for cooperation of Iran and Serbia and Belgrade and Tehran that the route is established. You've seen that a large number of people travel from New York to Belgrade. Belgrade is becoming the region's hub. If we manage to introduce the line to Beijing, it will strengthen our position and the line to Tehran will then become fully justified – says Mali, who is also the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Air Serbia.

According to him, a direct line to Tehran might be introduced by mid-2017.

A direct Belgrade-Tehran flight is a prerequisite for more frequent visits of Iranians to Serbia and Serbs to Iran, says the director of the Tourist Organization of Belgrade, Miodrag Popovic, who points out that both countries have a lot to offer each other in the area of tourism.

– Tehran's altitude is 800 m, there are mountains above the city with ski centers, the prices are favorable. Tehran also offers student tourism, it is safe, and the fact is that there's a lot to learn there... Likewise, Belgrade and Serbia have a lot to offer to Iranians – Popovic says.
