NIS steps up production in Elemir by 10% - Gas reaches Russian quality

By opening an amine facility in Elemir near Zrenjanin, Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) has increased the production by 10% at the facility for preparation and transport of petrol and gas, representatives of NIS said and pointed out that the quality of local natural gas had improved at the same time.

– We now have quality gas comparable to the imported Russian gas – stated the director of the facility, Predrag Grujic.

He added that the daily capacity of the amine facility was 750,000 cubic meters of gas, whereas the amount of carbon-dioxide (CO2) in the gas produced by NIS had been reduced from 5-8% to 3%.

According to technologist Grigorije Tesanovic, dried CO2 is accumulated in Rusanda boreholes, and the natural gas produced is delivered to PE Srbijagas.

The amine facility in Elemir for extracting CO2 from gas, in which NIS had invested more than EUR 30 million, was built int 2014, and it's been operational since July 2015.

The facility is the first one in Europe and the second one in the world to use HiPACT (High Pressure Acidgas Capture Technology) in purifying natural gas from CO2 and other ingredients, one of the most efficient gas processing methods.

The technology contributes to increasing the efficiency of the company's operations, since it enables saving heat and electricity, as well as consumables, by up to 25% compared to earlier technologies.

NIS emphasizes the benefit of employing local companies in building the amine facility, as well as the employment of 20 young people.

The project's general contractor was the Israeli company Ludan Engineering LTD, and the project is a part of NIS's great program for increasing the efficiency of exploiting gas resources.
