Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic announced on Saturday, September 3, that Sremska-Mitrovica-based Mitros would start producing pork meant for export to Russia on Monday, and that it would start the production meant for export to the European Union in mid-October.

The export will start as soon as the necessary permits are issued, Nedimovic said.

While taking a tour of the company, which was open for visitors on Saturday within the Open Door Day, Nedimovic pointed out that the company was an example of how manufacture in Serbia should be.

– This is what we’re talking about, the manufacture as a way of creating added value. The interest of this ministry is to create added value, as well as new capacities in the market, not just in this industry, but also in fruit growing etc. – the minister said.

He noted that around 800 pigs were processed in Mitros daily and that the maximum capacity to strive for is 5,000. As stated, the plan is to have 200 employees in Mitros by late September.

The director of Mitros, Ramo Adrovic, stated that the company had around 100 local subcontractors at the moment.

According to him, contracts with 700 subcontractors will be signed by the end of the year, as planned.

Ramovic said for Beta that the number of subcontractors was around 100 because Mitros strove to form, as soon as possible, a reproductive center from which pigs would be sent to subcontractors for fattening.

– We are now in the phase of signing contracts with subcontractors, which will be completed by the end of 2016, when we will form our team of subcontractors which will fatten and slaughter pigs – Adrovic said.
